I think my Portrait 3 hates me now

Hello everyone,

I have been owning a silhouette portrait 3 for almost three years now, and for the last year, it's just been a let down.

I print stickers and bookmarks, which I then cut with the machine, but no matter how often I calibrate it, it still completely messes up my design, doesn't read the marks and sometimes doesn't even cut through like it's supposed to.

I've tried several tips on how to get it to read the marks, I keep it updated, I even bought a new 2mm knife because I use pretty thick, matte paper (300g). Still, it just messes everything up, it cost me a lot of paper in fact.

Do you have a recommendation for a different, better cutter? Preferably in the same price range or lower, I bought my SP3 for around 300 bucks back then, but I am just too disappointed now.

My ideal cutting machine would be able to handle thick paper (which my current one used to, in the beginning) and have a deep knife. I've been looking online but there's so many.

Thanks for reading all of this and have a great day <3

I have had it with epson printers, I've been using a xp 970 for about two years and just recently it stopped recognizing my 3rd party ink cartridges. Now, I am aware that Epson and other companies want you to use their original ink to make a bigger profit, but I have been using 3rd party ink for years and it just now, in the middle of a print, stopped recognizing it, now I'm sitting on a bunch of new and full cartridges that I can't use. I've read dozens of posts on here saying that Epson has a new firmware update that blocks you from using unofficial ink, which doesn't sound legal.

Then I read that there's even a lawsuit (started in Aug 2024, don't know if it's still going) surrounding this whole problem.

Now my big question is;

Can anyone recommend a reliable printer for someone like me, who prints bright and colourful documents on a weekly basis? I like to use thicker paper for my illustrations, which also doesn't work with every printer.

I will never buy an Epson again, as many people have complained that some of their printers don't even recognize the original ink (wtf)??

So any suggestions would be nice, thanks for reading all of this and may your printers actually do their jobs 🫶🏻
