Im fortunate enough to be offered a place in NUS to study psychology. But im not sure if psych is something that’s for me. For context i was from JC and have a strong bio and math background (i was quite decent at stats which i heard is heavily used in psych). JC was very academically rigorous and monotonous, it was just memories and vomit content on repeat. I’m worried that psych will be somewhat similar to that and is very academically rigorous? Basically I have JC PTSD and In uni I want more hands on work, group projects and industrial exposure and less memorisation and regurgitation. Will psych offer me that? I really don’t wanna spend 4 years of my life intensively studying. I’m also worried about employment after uni. Apparently if you are not planning to go clinical (which I’m not, alright not completely against), it’s difficult to find employment and it’s usually low paying? That’s just what I’ve heard please correct me if I’m wrong. At the same time, I’ve seen the curriculum and the mods I’ll be taking if I peruse psych and they all look interesting. I like that I have the flexibility to choose when I wanna attend classes and what electives I wanna choose. Just concerned about the academic rigour and employability :)
