My son 15 went in for a CT of his chest for a separate heart related issue. They found a liver lesion of 2.8 mm noted on the scan. This is going to devastate him as the heart surgery was super hard and a long recovery. However, I’m most concerned that this liver lesion is cancer. I’m waiting on a referral from his heart surgeon. We live in Cleveland and he’s a registered patient both at Cleveland clinic and university hospital.

Does anyone have experience with pediatrics that specialize in livers/lesions?

How worried should I be?

What testing should I request? (Note: I respect the medical community and all doctors he’s had but believe in being grounded in knowing what best would help us on the next steps)

What questions should I ask?

Because he has titanium bars in his chest does that make MRI’s not an option?

Any advice other is appreciated.
