The campaign led to the construction of over 100 million toilets across the country and significantly reduced open defecation rates.

The impact goes beyond infrastructure. Better toilet access is linked to improvements in public health, women’s safety, dignity, school attendance, and reduction in water-borne diseases. At the same time, several independent studies and surveys have pointed out that challenges still remain in terms of toilet usage, water availability, maintenance, and ground-level implementation in some regions.
