used rog ally purchase and modding

Hey guys I am about to get myself into the handheld world of gaming and I am on the edge about either getting the base OG ally Z1E for very cehap 235 euro or 260 dollars. I was wondering could the stock ally be modded with a battery off of amazon (the 74Whr one), will i be able to mod it myself as someone who actually has zero idea about tech/it and if by some miracle i would, could i also manage to install steamOS/bazzite onto it? Has anyone with zero experience actually done it? please let me know if its a good deal and if its possible and viable or should i just skip the hassle and get the steam deck. FYI i own a macbook but its mainly for browsing the internet and my gaming is done on the ps5 but because i had a "gaming" laptop i have an existing steam library

getting into handhelds

I know this question was asked a million times here but none of my friends have had a handheld and conversing with AI about this seems a bit lackluster so:
As the title says I'm on the hunt for my first handheld device. Im eyeing something from the used market up to around 400$ (polish market), I had a PC but had to sell it so there is a steam library with some games, i also own a ps5 which i mostly play those high end AAA games (elden ring, RDR2, GoW;R rtc) in my living room but its often occupied by familiy members so i thought i'd get a handheld device for those situations wich I'd mostly use for games that either are multiplayer and unavailable on the ps5 like Sea of thieves, team fortress or dota, and older titles which i havent played yet or need to come back to like skyrim, fallout, mass effect. Which handhelds you guys recommend? Budget around 400$ (plus like a 50$) - from the products that I've already seen the stuff that i could get are: SD LCD 256GB, OG ROG Ally, MSI Claw 7 A1M, Claw 7 Ultra?, legion go OG, legion go S windows version. I tend to lean more towards the SD LCD, performance does not need to be top tier i can manage like 720p 30fps, my main concern is battery life and OS - i dont like windows (i've been a MacOS user for like a decade now) + I'd also take it on some trips etc where I usually do not have a power outlet nearby.
