Hey everyone,

My birthday is coming up on a Monday and I’m considering taking a sick day. I work in public practice and we don’t have personal days, only paid sick days.

Right now:

  1. Busy season is over
  2. Idon’t have any active work assigned
  3. I have enough sick days banked

I’m just wondering how “risky” this is or if it’s something people actually do without issues. I’m not trying to cause problems, just curious what the general workplace norm is here.

Would HR or managers typically care if someone takes a sick day on their birthday?

Thanks

Hey everyone!

Planning a 2-day trip to Salt Spring Island from Vancouver and just want to keep it super slow, cozy, and relaxing. Not trying to pack too much in.. just good food, wandering around, and enjoying the vibe.

Rough plan:

Saturday: explore Ganges, check out the Saturday Market, brunch + lunch at spots like Tree House Café / Salt Spring Coffee, walk around shops, maybe a light hike (Erskine) + sunset, dinner at Moby’s

Sunday: slow morning, brunch, wander a bit more, solace/arbutus spa, then head back home.

Main questions:

  1. How’s getting around without a car? Are taxis easy to get or should we just rent a car for a day?

  2. Is this a good chill itinerary or am I missing any must-do (but still relaxing) spots, cafe, food places?

Would love any suggestions, especially low-effort, scenic spots or cute cafés!

Thanks 🫶
