I work in childcare and we have certain rules we have to follow with cleaning and whatnot, basic hygiene procedures, nothing crazy. Well there is the state that regulates things at a base level but there is a side entity that has more rules that you’re encouraged to follow that will gain you a higher status for a “better childcare center” and you will get more funding and so on… well recently we were visited by the representative for this other entity and we were informed that the table cleaning protocol had been changed and if you wanted to gain points for better hygiene you had to do this new table cleaning system.
In the past to properly clean a table and receive the points for hygiene you would spray the table down with a standard disinfecting spray and then let it sit on the table the recommended time that is stated by the instructions on the bottle and then wipe it off with a paper towel and that’s it. Seems reasonable.
Well now the new protocol is
Spray the table down with soapy water and wipe it down with a paper towel and dispose of said paper towel
Spray the table down with plain water and then wipe that down with a paper towel and throw that away
Spray the table down with a disinfecting cleaning spray and let it sit for 2 minutes and then wipe it down with a paper towel and throw that away.
That’s the new procedure it’s a 3 step process.
My question is for someone who maybe works in the science field? I’m all for hygiene practices but this to me just seems kinda redundant? I mean if you’re finishing the cleaning just by using a disinfectant wouldn’t the outcome be the same as old standard? Could someone please let me know if this seems like it would actually be more clean as apposed to just cleaning it properly once with a Clorox type disinfectant spray assuming it was cleaned properly the first time?
