My 2009 Toyota Sienna CE (3.5, FWD, disk brakes) needs its rear rotors and pads replaced, but I can't get the rotor clear of the parking brake's shoes and there's no access to the adjustment screw, likely due to my own past mistake.

I'm generally comfortable doing this sort of maintenance, but discovered that the last time I had the rotors off I didn't align the the access hole for the adjustment screw on the passenger side rear rotor. I can wiggle the bottom of the rotor off the hub, but the top is held by the shoes. Super frustrating because I normally take plenty of time and try to do it right with the goal of preventing issues like this.

I didn't want to go right to hammering the rotor off for fear of tearing the spring retaining pins through the backing plate. Is the right solution to try to snip off the spring retaining pins from behind the backing plate and then to hammer the rotor off, or is there a better approach?
