For some context, I am Asian American. My beliefs are on the liberal/democratic side and that people have a right to be governed how they like and such. But I am obviously not someone with any real power and can only really just observe and react base on how I personally feel. (EX. Nicki turned MAGA, I stopped listening to her)

That being said, I am someone who wants to enjoy Chinese culture (history, pop culture, memes, dramas, etc) but oftentimes I do see news after a google search involving some celebrity in a drama or is a pop singer who was against the Hong Kong protestors or actively supports China’s policy on Taiwan, whether peaceful or by force.

It’s hard for me to enjoy the media that they produce without this issue being forefront in my mind. I am wondering if there’s anyone here who does engage heavily in Chinese culture but keeps a boundary between the politics and government vs the state and people.

For now, I just focus on Mandarin culture emerging from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, but I don't want this mindset to turn me racist.
