I coach 10U rec ball. We moved up last fall and went through the typical adjustment issues going from coach to kid pitch. We've had a lot of fun this Spring season and stayed competitive with all the teams that moved up with us. We even beat a couple of the older teams. Couldn't have asked for a better outcome.
Our league plays 10 regular season games and then has a single elimination tournament to end the season. I'm under no illusions about our skill level, but I would like to approach this a bit more aggressively from a coaching standpoint.
I don't want to reinvent the wheel on defense, so my main question is batting order. I haven't paid too much attention to it, as I have one kid batting .900, three that haven't found the ball all season, and everything in between. I've kind of just been top loading my 3-4 best hitters and sprinkling the other decent bats in with the lower ones to keep from going 3 up/3 down when we get to the 2nd/3rd inning.
Should I maintain that approach, or should I build a legit batting order and let the stats/math do their thing?
