I know sports are supposed to be entertainment. I know “you win some, you lose some.”But when it stretches across years and decades, it starts to feel less like randomness and more like a system that never really changes for the people who care the most.
Players come and go - they get paid, they perform, they move on. If it doesn’t work here, they go somewhere else and reset their careers. No lasting burden.Owners don’t feel the failure- Even without winning, franchise value often keeps rising and revenue stays stable. For owners, it remains a financial asset more than an emotional experience.
But we fans are the ones who actually live through it all.
We spend the money. Tickets, merchandise, travel, and everything that comes with supporting a team. We invest emotionally every single season. And year after year, it’s the same outcome - disappointment and “next year.”
So how long are we supposed to wait?
19 years have already gone. So what now, another 10? 20? 30? Or just forever?
Shouldn’t there be some real rules and accountability for owners too?
Eg- If a franchise goes 15+ years without a title, ownership should be replaced -a complete reset with new leadership and direction, because at some point you have to stop repeating the same failure at the expense of the fans. I know it sounds extreme. I know it’s not realistic.
But from a fan’s point of view, it often feels like we’re the only ones paying the price for decades of nothing changing.
