Hi everyone,

I’m in a really stressful situation and could use some advice.

My father is in the US and is scheduled for heart surgery soon. I’m his younger son, currently living in India, and I want to travel on Tourist visa to help take care of him during recovery (around 8–10weeks). My elder brother is already there, but he works full-time and won’t be able to stay with my dad constantly post-surgery.

I applied for an emergency visa appointment with all the supporting documents — surgery date, doctor’s note, explanation of need for care, etc. — but my request was denied.

Now I’m stuck and trying to figure out next steps:

Can I book a regular visa appointment and explain my situation in person at the consulate?

Do officers actually consider medical urgency if you present documents during a normal interview?

Has anyone had success getting approval this way after an emergency request was denied?

Is there anything else I can do to strengthen my case?

I’m honestly just trying to be there for my dad during a critical time. Any advice, experiences, or suggestions would mean a lot.

Thanks in advance 🙏
