I’ve been trying to track down a very obscure anime (possibly an OVA or short series) I watched years ago as a kid, and I’m hoping someone might recognize it. I’ve added details based on what I can remember:
Setting: Dark medieval European-style world Humans have mostly lost their cities and/or near extinction, Society is dominated by pig-headed humanoids that act like normal humans AKA civilians, soldiers and all that
From what I could remember most, there is a mysterious dark prophet figure who caused this situation. He transformed normal animals (at least pigs) into humanoid beings and essentially reversed the food chain as in humans used to butcher animals, now humanoid animals butcher humans
The prophet look something like this:
Very tall, always wears a black robe that hides his body/face, Carries a long wooden staff is worshipped by the non-humans (like a religious figure or king) has supernatural/miracle-like powers (I remember him creating food out of nothing to feed them early on) Possibly inspired by a dark/Jesus-like figure.
Specific scene I remember clearly:
A group of human protagonists are hiding inside a city taken over by pig humanoids, They witness a pig humanoid butcher a human (possibly a child) in a shop. the meat is then sold to other pig-humanoids, the scene is treated as normal from the pigs’ perspective (like a regular marketplace) the protagonists are horrified but forced to stay hidden
Other details that may have something to do with this anime can't remember exactly:
The protagonist group includes multiple people. Tone is very dark and tragic throughout. The prophet is seen at one point surrounded by non-human followers, possibly noticing the hidden protagonists. could be at the very beginning of the show where he made food appear out of nothing. Animation style looks similar to 80s fantasy OVAs (like Amon Saga), maybe even with heavy shadows or muted colors. I watched it in one sitting, so it could be a film or short OVA or simply my younger self didn't know where to look for other episodes yet
I watched it in Japanese without subtitles, so I never knew the name (I don't know Japanese).
If this sounds familiar at all I’d really appreciate any leads
