Hi guys

I seem to have hit a wall where I'm in NG+2 and my save files keep corrupting. I've tested this to see what's happening. I'll manually save first (safe one). Then I'll manually save a second time. Then progress. Game continues autosaving and works for 3-5 autosaves. Then the autosave file corrupts, crashes the game and cannot be loaded. It also corrupts the second manual save file it's been autosaving from.

Has anyone encountered this. Obviously I play with mods, but I have only introduced some lighting decorations into the decoration/build mode which I haven't even touched. In addition I have removed Crimson Fleet start delay. Those are the only two changes I've recently made.

Any ideas?

I'm so confused about Cruise mode. Everyone says that your ships stops when you encounter something. I've sat in the pilot seat and watched things appear and flyby (non encounters, just planets/moons etc I guess). So I decided I'll use this time to decorate and research etc.

My main question is:
When you get up and walk around your ship etc (which is preferable than staring at the window), does the ship automatically stop when you encounter something?

I've used it like 10 times and I haven't had a single "encounter"...am I missing something?

EDIT: For context as this has been the common response - yes I am using autopilot. Yes it hits my destination fine. But I am not interrupted and pulled out of autopilot for anything other than arriving at my destination. Not once.

SOLVED: Thanks to those who commented. General consensus is even though you're in autopilot, only hostile engagements will you out of autopilot. Thus, to actually find the "random encounters" you need to stay seated in the pilot seat and watch ahead for possible points of interest to redirect to yourself. Which is where I was getting stuck, because who would have thought "autopilot" to trigger encounters meant that you can't get out of your seat...defeating the purpose of autopilot. Maybe I misunderstood what all the fuss on "encounters" during cruise mode actually were or meant.
