CA joining IIM C , need guidance.
Hey everyone,
I’m a complete newbie to Reddit, so plz don’t mind if I get wrong somewhere 😅
Feeling really grateful to have converted Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and will be joining this year.
My profile:
23M
9/9/8 academics
CAT: 99.91 percentile
Chartered Accountant
2 years work ex in Big 4 FDD
Previous CTC: 20 fixed + 4 bonus
UG: B.Com from IGNOU (distance learning)
One thing that worries me a bit is that my profile is extremely academics/work-ex focused. I’ve always been a huge book nerd and honestly never focused much on ECAs. Since my UG was distance learning, I also have basically 0 PORs and almost no campus activities.
Recently I connected with a few other CAs who converted IIM C, and many of them seem to have much more balanced profiles with strong ECAs/PORs, case comps, etc. That made me wonder where exactly I stand in comparison.
Would genuinely appreciate some honest guidance from seniors/alumni/recruitment committee folks here:
How much behind would I realistically be compared to peers with stronger all-rounder profiles?
Is the lack of ECAs/PORs a major red flag for finance shortlists during SIPs?
What kind of SIP shortlists can someone with my profile realistically expect?
For tier-1 finance roles (IB/PE/VC/front-end finance), where would my profile stand?
In case top finance shortlists don’t work out, how can I make my CV consulting-ready before finals ?
What should be my roadmap from Day 1 at IIM C?
Would really appreciate practical advice 🙂
