Good evening,
I’d like to get an opinion from someone with an outside perspective to see if I’m being as harsh as I think I am.
I’ve been working at a tutoring center for five years and have always been self-employed, but with the promise of being hired on a permanent contract.
Since it wasn’t my main source of personal income (I work there part-time), I kept putting it off.
This month, however, I was laid off from my main job, and the issue of the contract has become more urgent.
I’ve been bringing it up, but the conversation always circles back to the same point, especially now that students are leaving and few are coming in by comparison.
Would it be too harsh to issue a serious ultimatum and say that if they don’t make me a permanent employee, I’ll leave?
Most likely, they won’t do it, and then I’ll have to leave and focus on private tutoring, which is always riskier.
Also, I feel like I would be betraying my students for leaving after accompanying them for some years.
Thank you.
