I might be moving to New Brunswick soon and while I know there are no specific laws to NB in regards to service animals, I would like to know more about what rights handlers would have in that province without specific laws (as far as I can find online anyway)?
My biggest issue is that what I’m finding online is vague at best and contradictory at worst — I really want to know about owner training specifically (as that’s what I’m used to doing as an American), and what public access issues I could face in the future if I move there. It’s also worth noting that I don’t currently have a SD — my last SDiT passed away early in life due to cancer and I’ve had a hard time finding another candidate and starting the whole process over since. So I will also be going at this from scratch essentially.
My tentative plan so far for pursuing another SD, if I move to Canada in general, is to start with a psychiatrist who can hopefully reassess my situation based on previous therapy experiences and diagnoses, if they’re receptive to the continued plan of utilizing a SD I can possibly get a doctors note and begin owner training. So is this the typical method for getting a SD outside of a program in Canada (for provinces that don’t require certification of course) or am I missing some important steps? I should’ve also mentioned that programs aren’t really an option for me due to the fact that very few places are willing to work with PTSD/C-PTSD outside of veterans
My first choice of where to live would be Ontario based on their laws and protections alone, however I don’t think it’s going to be possible to move in that direction unfortunately.
