It's most likely down to how I hear it, but I record directly through a Focusrite and pick one of the amp simulators. Then listen via the laptop speakers. When I do Guitars they always sound great, but bass I can never hear it properly and have to push the comp gain up for it to cut through.

Is there a better way of doing it, or should I just accept it until I get proper speakers/headphones?

I only use garageband for making demos so it's not the end of the world, but it'd be nice to have something I'm happy with
