My apologies if this breaks sub rules
I’m a Haitian woman dating a Puerto Rican man. I’ve cooked for his family before, but this time I really want to level up. My boyfriend is pretty Americanized, so he’s no help with traditional dishes, and I’d love to surprise them. I’ve been researching recipes, but a lot of them feel too similar to Haitian food (which I already make), which makes sense because of the shared Latin influences. This time, I want to branch out and try something different…something a little more niche and challenging, if that makes sense.
Also, I’d like to add.. I’d prefer to focus on side dishes. The main dishes are too similar to my usual cooking. His family are mostly pescatarian.
