We just finished demolition and excavation of our lot in Toronto. The old house was a World War 2 bungalow, about 1,000 . The new house will be a 2 floors with 4 bedrooms and about 4,000 sqft above ground. 10 ft basement.

I got multiple quotes and my builder wanted me to go with a company he has worked before with a price around 50K.

I ended up going with Company A. The work was done this week and we are satisfied. The cheaper price did not mean worse quality in this case.

The lesson here is to always get multiple quotes and referrals. I got Company A through a referral.

The amount of time I have walked into a new custom home that is less than 1 year old with an HVAC using the drain in the middle of a mechanical room. These are builds over $1.5 million.

I don't like it. It's in the middle of the room and can be easily tripped over. It also gathers stains and erosion like pic related.

I'm building a new custom home this year and will make sure it's not happening to my build.

The question is: whose job is it to be responsible for preventing this from happening? What's the best solution for this?

I'm an owner 0builder in Toronto.

Last year, I didn't even know the difference between a General Contractor and a Site Supervisor, but I decided to take the plunge and build anyway. This sub has helped me immensely with the planning process of my dream home.

Good luck everyone who are building this Spring.
