So, the USTFU elections have finished, and it’s almost a total clean sweep for the party where the previous president was seated in. While we congratulate the winners, we really need to talk about how we got here. Looking back at the "Breaking News" post from The V, the bias feels even more glaring now.
It’s hard not to feel like the V played a role in this outcome. By framing a month-old proposal from March 10 as "Breaking News" right at the peak of the campaign, they gave Sulong a massive, last-minute PR boost. While Sulong’s proposals were being blasted across our feeds as urgent wins, FAIR was barely getting any airtime.
When the university's primary news source seemingly picks a side—or at the very least, neglects one—it skews the democratic process. It’s great that we have a FAIR auditor to keep things in check, but imagine what the results might have looked like if both parties had been given equal "Breaking News" treatment.
