Title says most of it...
I just want to get proper tags, meaning , homogenous, and not incorrect, without it taking ALL DAY LONG. None of these tried and true "solutions" seem to be anywhere near helpful... picard requires endless pointing and clicking, and it gets lookups wrong constantly.. The way the musicbrainz database is set up makes zero sense to me. It's full of clutter, a million different "releases" even though half of those are digital etc.
Anyways I"m nto going to go on a rant, i'm just ready to tear my head off. I've tried beets, which to me just feels like "let's put picard into a faux cli wrapper"... There's nothing automatic about it...It's just picard. It uses the same MB db.. Neither of these tools EVER get the proper catalog ids..
Can someone please help me with this? I don't want to spend all day trying to get tags right.
At this point I've tried rethinking what tags are actually important... And I've tried scripting to get most of my tags from my source files/paths... but it's really a headache and I haven't gotten it to work... there are two many special cases, where the ingress sources are (obviously) not following any kind of naming protocol.
SO I guess my smaller ask, if you don't have suggestions on automation/software... what tags SHOULD I focus on? What can be ignored? All the mb bullshit tags etc Im ignoring. I'm focusing On artist, albumartist, track titles, pressing and original release etc.. all the stuff that seems to be important. So i guess I've already answered that question... And it's still just a massive pain.
Can I hit some db (NOT musicbrains.) to query all the basic info by giving it a catalog ID when available (I try to have them available, and ussualy the only time I do NOT is for a web/digital...) , which I can then use that to Tag? If I got response from api with all the basic tagging info that would be musch clearner/easier than trying to parse it from the files themselves..
Musicbrains almost never has the catalog in it's Db. Don't tell me to "contribute" to it. No way in hell. I don't agree with the way those ppl do things.
