Pension contributions after separation from federal service
I recently left the VA and federal service altogether, and I would like to have my pension contributions rolled over to another retirement plan outside of the federal government. I filled out Form SF-3106 to initiate this process and had the financial custodian of the retirement plan that I want to receive my pension contributions complete their section of the form. According to the instructions on the form, the completed form should be sent to HR if the separation occurred within the last 30 days or directly to OPM if it occurred more than 30 days ago. Because it's been less than 30 days since I separated, the form should have been sent to HR. Unfortunately, the financial custodian mailed the form to OPM after they completed their section. Does anyone know what will happen if OPM gets the form prematurely? Will they still process it? My resignation has already been submitted and processed by now, so I'm hoping that it will be okay.
