My boss of 5 years is calling me a "traitor" and ghosting me because I gave my notice.
Hi everyone, I really need to get this off my chest.
I’ve been working at a private internal medicine clinic since February 2022 (over 4 years, going on 5). I’ve worked my way up and have been incredibly loyal to the doctor. Recently, I accepted a great offer from a large medical group—better pay, better growth.
Because I wanted to be professional, I gave a 3-week notice. I wanted to help transition my tasks and make sure the office was okay.
But ever since I gave my notice, the doctor (the owner) has turned into a completely different person. He literally called me a "traitor" in front of the other staff. Now, he is completely ghosting me. He won't look at me, won't acknowledge my greetings, and is intentionally excluding me from all office business. It’s like I’ve become a ghost in the office I’ve managed for years.
The other staff members are just caught in the middle, feeling awkward because the boss is acting like a petty teenager.
I tried to do the "right thing" by giving 3 weeks, but being treated like a traitor after 5 years of hard work is breaking me. I’m thinking about just dropping my resignation letter on his desk this Friday and walking out for good.
Am I wrong for wanting to cut my notice short? Why should I give my time and professional courtesy to someone who doesn't even have the decency to say "good morning" back to me?
