5 years post-CI, still can’t understand speech. Anyone with a similar experience?

Hi everyone 👋🏼

I’m looking for people with a similar story who might be able to share their experience and offer any tips, because I’m really getting frustrated at this point…

I had my CI almost 5 years ago. Before that, I wore hearing aids on both sides, but because I had severe hearing loss in one ear and couldn’t hear anything with it anymore, I decided to get a CI on that side. Now I wear a hearing aid on one side and a CI on the other.

I did two years of rehabilitation after the surgery, but it didn't help at all. I still find the voices sound robotic and hard to understand. I can only understand them when I use my hearing aid.

I get so frustrated at every yearly check-up because the doctors make me feel like it's my fault I'm not getting better, even though I wear my CI every day and still do my exercises.

I'm starting to feel like I'm not going to make any more progress, and that this is just how it's going to be from now on 🥲

Has anyone here experienced something similar and can offer some advice?
