How's Tron going for you guys? What can i do over the summer?

Hey everyone, I’m headed into Mechatronics eng this Fall. I’ve spent most of high school doing software related things mostly Python, and java related stuff. I also have a bit of experience with basic Raspberry Pi skills, but no robotics related things really not too hands on. What can I potentially do over the summer to level up my skills? is tron really as hard as it seems? Can i still pursue a good coop, degree, while maintaining a life lol.

My main concern is that Tron seems like a "jack of all trades" major. For those of you in upper years, did you find it hard to compete with specialized Mechanical or Software students for your first few co-ops? Should I settle for whatever I can get in the beginning, or actually be a little picky if I have the option. I hope to be able to get a coop in tesla or something in the future(very ambitious goal i know). I’m worried that being a generalist might make the job hunt harder if I don’t pick a "lane" early.

Also sidenote, any residence suggestions for where most of the classes in this degree take place? (think ill be in stream 8).

Thank you for your time.
