I’ll be graduating from language school in September, and I’ve been job hunting since January after receiving my JLPT N2 certification. However, I’m having a really hard time finding a job, and I’m starting to feel anxious and wonder if my situation is typical.

For reference:

3 years of work experience in Business Operations in the U.S. (small call center team management, workflow creation, customer meetings, etc.)- at start-ups

JLPT N2; I use Japanese daily (my partner can’t speak English, so I have no choice lol), so I do think my speaking is up to par. I also consulted with my language school teachers, and they believe it’s sufficient for a job that requires N2.

(I understand that N2 is objectively still on the lower side, and for that reason I’m trying to target jobs that require both English and Japanese. Since I’ve worked in client/customer-facing roles before, I thought positions like international account management or customer success would be a good fit.)

I also had my partner and language school teachers look over my resume, and no errors were found.

However, I’m barely getting responses from companies. If I do get a response, it’s usually that they can’t sponsor a visa (and honestly, that might just be a polite rejection). I’m applying for jobs that I genuinely feel match my background, so I’m starting to get really worried. I wanted to join a company I truly connect with and stay long-term, but at this point it feels like only an 英会話 school will accept me.

I’m using Daijob, Recruit Agent, LinkedIn, etc.

Any similar experiences or advice would be really appreciated.
