I will be doing my first ever phone RN job interview in a few hours and I am wondering how should I ask for a higher salary if we get into that part since I am a novice nurse. I guess I am asking for ideas on how to phrase the question.

The salary range on the website is $35-38 but the nurses i’ve talked to say that the average in our area is 40+ and I should be aiming for that.

Edit: I just finished my phone interview and they briefly asked if I have a preferred salary range but the in depth discussion about it will be happening in the second round of interview which is nextweek. I chickened out and instead of saying 40, i said 38 which is within the range of what is listed on the website.
