Nearly failed a class due to a submission error, advice?

Hi guys,

I want to start off this post by recognizing that my mistake is lowkey a skill issue and i'm not trying to make any excuses, just need some advice!

I just finished my first year in life sciences, and I took HPS250 (philosophy of science) this semester as an elective. I'm aiming to go to med school, preferably in Ontario.

I just got my grade back this Thursday, and I ended with a FIFTY. I was so confused as to why this was the case as I was not expecting to get this grade at all, as I was expecting to get around a 70-80.

This dropped my cGPA from a 3.6 to a 3.26.

I emailed my professor immediately and he said that I received a 0 for an essay worth 25% of my grade because it wasn't submitted on Quercus. Here's the thing, I did do the essay, and even completed the essay before the due date.

He asked me for proof that I submitted my essay on Quercus, but Quercus does not send confirmation emails for submissions in this course. It has been a while since I finished my essay so the exact circumstances regarding whether I simply forgot to submit it, or if there was an submission error is unclear. He did emphasize that simply accepting the essay now is unfair to the students who submitted on time, and those who got marks deducted for late submissions.

All I could do was send my version history of my essay showing that I last edited it before the due date. My last communication with my professor was on Thursday, and it is now Sunday.

My registrar said that it is very uncertain whether he would accept it at all due to the fact that final grades have already been submitted. In addition, requesting an LWD is difficult as it usually is granted to students who were not able to complete a final exam under extraordinary circumstances.

I am absolutely crushed. All my other grades this semester are above an A- and I worked really hard just so my efforts get erased by one stupid mistake.

So a few questions:

  1. Has anyone been in the same position? How did you guys recover?
  2. How much have I hurt my chances for grad/med school?

Thanks, I appreciate any input :)

Going into second-year in the fall, and taking up BCH210 over the summer with Dr Patterson (starts next week), i've heard nothing but slander about this course and i hope i've done the right choice by taking it over the summer despite it being 10x faster cause i do NOT wanna take this with a full course load.

Do you guys have any tips on how to do rly well in the course? i'm aiming for an A :)

Thanks!
