My cat (7yr old persian mix, rescue) has been doing this the last few weeks, but only every few days. I just caught the tail end of it - it starts off more aggressive and like a loud cough/sneeze but almost in reverse because hes also breathing in. Only lasts a few seconds, then he carries on with his life. Ive taken him to the vet and they found no issues of respiratory issues, no infection, blood work came back perfect, heart sounded normal... they just said "maybe its dust"? But hes an indoor cat and our house is clean. They dont even use clay litter so its not dusty there either. Any ideas? Hes fine otherwise- eats, drinks, plays, affectionate and lovely.
