I just “finished” Bloodborne for the first time
So I get to the end of the Nightmare of Mensis, kill Mergo’s Wet Nurse, go back to the hunters dream to level up, discover I have to go talk to the guy in the wheelchair, and I follow the dialogue. Then the game just….ends? What?
This surprised the heck out of me. I was hoping to explore more of the chalice dungeons and the DLC before finishing the game, and ideally get to as many optional bosses/areas as possible. But now I’m booted into NG+
Did I mess up the ending dialogue? Am I an idiot for not realising sooner that the game was telegraphing the ending? It’s obvious now in hindsight, I suppose, but these games have such cryptic dialogue you never know what’s going to happen. Either way I’m left disappointed. I genuinely thought this game had a lot more to offer, and I was enjoying it immensely up until the abrupt end. I was looking forward to seeing more of the game - I know for a fact I didn’t even explore all of the final level.
I have finished all the Souls games at least once, and this has to be the most disappointing way to end a game by far. The final boss wasn’t that difficult, didn’t feel like an actual final boss thematically, and overall made the ending feel too abrupt.*
So - what am I missing? What should I do now? Maybe just run a NG+ and try to do everything I missed, I guess? Honestly everything in this game is so cool, I’m just left wishing there was more, and feeling I’ve missed out on half the game.
* I did look this up briefly and yes I am aware that there are multiple possible final bosses, so I can see it’s a game that’s meant to be replayed. But I’m not sure I like a game locking me out of half the content within a playthrough for some reason? And how do I know I won’t get the same final boss the next playthrough?
