We already have Teleporting. Why the Drama?
I honestly wouldn’t mind teleportation mechanics, whether through Medbeds or station-to-station transit. In practice, we already have similar systems anyway:
- “Exit to Menu” effectively teleports you back to a station.
- Resetting your imprint and dying sends you back to your home planet.
- Using a mobile Medbed and killing yourself is also a Teleport
So adding direct station-to-station travel doesn’t feel that different to me.
Ship travel could still stay meaningful through jump tunnels, and we already know there will be shortcut mechanics in the future.
That’s why I don’t really understand all the drama around the idea. Am I missing something here?
I agree that it would feel lazy if CIG allowed players to instantly teleport to any random location or directly to a party leader. But I highly doubt that’s what they would ever implement.
Limited systems like Medbeds, station transit, or lore-based travel mechanics are a very different thing from unrestricted fast travel. Those can still preserve immersion and keep ship travel relevant.
