Little back story, I moved to a new city and rented a 2 bedroom apartment. I occupy one room and found a roommate on Facebook for the second room. I'm the only one on the lease and no official documentation was done between my roommate and I.
After close to a year, he decided to move out of the apartment. I was away on the day he moved so he left the keys with a neighbor.
The issue is he left some furniture and electronics behind. It's been about 9 months since he left, his things are taking up space in the apartment and he won't respond to my multiple calls or texts about picking them up. He also owes me his share of the last 2 electricity bills we got while he was here.
What options do I have?
Can I legally sell these items to create space and recover the debt?
Discarding the items will probably cost me more money as I would need to pay for removal.
TLDR: Former Roommate won't pick up leftover belongings 9 months after moving out. Can I sell items to recover the amount he owes me?
