It looks goofy, but Unitree made it.
Let’s each make our bold guesses on how many years will it take for humanity to develop kick ass mechas like in Votom, Patlabor, or Gundam.
Not long ago, Unitree just released the “GD-01”, a fully man-maneuvered mecha that is for commercial use. This not only proves the possibility of mecha development, but also sparks hope in mecha fans of the future.
Despite the name being surprisingly similar to the Gundam“Zephyranthes GP-01”, this mecha looks rather prototype like and unfinished. Round and slim limbs accompanied by an egg-shaped torso protected by monkey bars, this is not even close to the sick looking mechas we see in cartoons.
In the newly released advertisement video, we can see that it is capable of bashing through walls and turning into a 4 legged hound-like thing by simply just lying down. Ok, somewhat like a Gaia Gundam?
But just wait! The name GD-01 suggests that there’d be more than just that. Perhaps whiles we are on Reddit discussing about this eggman robot, Unitree has already started developing the GD-02 or GD-03.
Nevertheless, let’s hope that Unitree does it well and pray for the first Gundam to be made! Personally I’d want them to make a Jegan…
