My guess is that Alastor is in a stable, long-lasting romantic relationship with his staff. Actually, I think it makes sense because Vivziepop stated that some objects in Hell, like Pentious's hat and Alastor's staff, are demons reincarnated in the materials from which the objects were made. Furthermore, even though it's one of his sources of power, I find it strange how obsessive Alastor is with the integrity of his staff. I think he's truly in love with it, but obviously keeps it a secret.
