Hi everyone,

I’m a senior university student in Japan and recently got an offer for a sales trader role at a tier 2 investment bank.

I’m pretty interested in markets and I think the role sounds interesting since it sits close to clients, traders, execution, and market flow. In the long run, I’d like to become a trader or maybe move to the buy side if possible.

For people who work in markets or know the industry well, how would you think about starting in sales trading? Is it a good seat to begin with, or would you try to go directly into trading if that’s the long-term goal?

Also, does it make a big difference whether the role is high-touch or low-touch?

Would appreciate any thoughts.
