I'm trying to downgrade my iPhone 3G to iPhoneOS 2.0. I restored it to iOS 4.2.1 and jailbroke it, then put it into pwned DFU mode with redsn0w 0.9.6rc14.
First I tried iTunes 10.6.3 and 11.4 on Snow Leopard, then an old release of iTunes 12 on a Windows 11 PC, all three of which said "The iPhone software update server could not be contacted." The latest iTunes release on Windows just failed to restore it. Legacy iOS Kit on my modern Mac did as well, with the message "ERROR: Unable to open device in restore mode."
I've tried stock and custom IPSWs for 2.0, as well as downgrading to 3.1.3 first as a stop gap. What should I do next?
