I am starting to look for exit opportunities as a newly promoted tax manager.

What are easy transition opportunities for someone with 5+ years of experience as a PA tax manager at a top 10 firm? I was wondering if getting my CMA (already have CPA) would be worth it if moving to private. I have experience with individual, flow-throughs, C-corp ASC 740 provisions, and a small amount of trust taxation.

The job market is without a doubt tight right now, but I just can’t justify a salary at 98k for a manager. I’m in the Midwest and working another crazy tax season is a tough sell. I don’t live in a HCOL area, but it certainly isn’t cheap either being in a mid-size city.

I’m getting married this year as well and looking to buy a house within 1-2 years and start having kids, so trying to get ahead with switching jobs before starting some of those big life goals. Thank you in advance!
