I didn’t know this existed until I was looking around the Appalachian Mountains, and was curious why this small region around the border of NC had its own state/national lines on Maps and also had a name in a language I couldn’t recognize. Turns out it’s home to a sovereign nation called EBCI, and the history behind why it can exist in NC is fascinating. I would definitely recommend reading more into it if you’re interested!
