I have a VW Atlas 2021. Hood release cable broken from the lever side. Got this estimate from dealership...

In short, the fender clip can pop off and be replaced without touching the not-broken-cable to avoid doing any bumper removal nor ACC stuff.

My VW Atlas 2021 battery died and hood release cable broke at the same time. Cant open hood, cant jump start, had to tow to dealership.

I just casually did some research on youtube and found a 4min video show you how to fix hood cable with cable bought from amazon. Basically you just need to replace the opener side of cable and hood it up with the other half of the cable shown in pic above.(plastic casing does not need to be fixed or can be bought for 5 bucks online)

Then i got the quote from dealership with the video (shared) saying flat out lies and estimate close to two thousand. (They basically said because the plastic casing is half broken, so they need to remove the entire second half of the cable that require a bumper tear down and some sensor recalibration cuz they are in the way), but you can clearly see that the plastic casing can pop right off and be replaced separately without touching the second half of the cable!

they literally recorded the video and try to fool me which turned into evidence of them lying their ass off.

I was so pissed and took my car back and fixed it myself in 20 minutes with a cable bought from amazon. (Not advertising but im so gonna make an website/app to let people upload their estimation/diagonose page from dealership to be verified and even get second opinion instantly from other repair shop) what a fraud these dealership are, if you quote me longer labor hours i can understand, but if you flat out lie about something not needed fixing, its just criminal! so pissed! How can I ever trust any dealership without research verification going forward :(

Do you all get second opinion when you get a big bill? or do you blind trust dealership?

I just casually did some research on youtube and found a 4min video show you how to fix hood cable with $15 cable bought from amazon. Basically you just need to replace the opener side of cable and hood it up with the other half of the cable shown in pic above.(plastic casing does not need to be fixed or can be bought for 5 bucks online)

Then i got the quote from dealership with the video (shared) saying flat out lies and estimate for $1600. (They basically said because the plastic casing is half broken, so they need to remove the entire second half of the cable that require a bumper tear down and some sensor recalibration cuz they are in the way), but you can clearly see that the plastic casing can pop right off and be replaced separately without touching the second half of the cable!
