Ive been trying to put my finger on why this season feels much more emotionally thin when compared to previous seasons in terms of the character development and narrative etc. I think the lack of flashbacks and backstory provided giving insight into character motivation etc is impacting the show in a very negative way.

I understand that less is arguably needed because we have now been introduced to these characters, but id feel a lot more connected and interested if more depth was provided in this way, theres no reason why we couldnt have more flashbacks or insight included about what they've been doing over the past 5 years to make the characters feel a little fuller and to have their decisions make more sense?

Im not saying that this hasn't been included at all, some characters have gotten a little more of this than others, it's just obvious to me that this is negatively impacting the show and the characters feeling believable and authentic to who they were in previous seasons in a really obvious way -- this is especially the case when it comes to Nate imo, its like hes been lobotamized with no real explanation as to why
