Bought a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer Limited (Manual) – Need advice if it was a good deal + P0171 issue
Hey everyone,
I recently bought a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer Limited (manual transmission) and I’m trying to understand if I got a good deal and what I might expect for future costs.
💰 Purchase details:
Price: $6,000 CAD
Taxes + fees: around $900–$1,100 (estimated 15% HST + registration)
Total on-road cost: about $7,000–$7,100 CAD
🚗 Car details:
~203,000 km
Manual transmission
New clutch, brakes, rotors recently done
Recent inspection passed (April 2025)
Has been sitting in a garage for ~6 months before I bought it
⚠️** Issue**:
Check engine code: P0171 (System Too Lean Bank 1)
Car starts and drives fine so far
No major symptoms like stalling or overheating (so far)
Could be MAF sensor / vacuum leak / fuel issue (not diagnosed yet)
❓ My questions:
Did I overpay or get a fair deal for this car in today’s market?
How serious is a P0171 code usually on these cars?
What is the worst-case repair cost I should realistically expect?
Is it safe to daily drive for now while I diagnose it?
Any common issues I should check first on this model / mileage?
I’m trying to figure out if I should:
just fix small things and keep it
or expect bigger repairs coming soon
Any advice from people who’ve dealt with this would really help.
Thanks in advance 🙏
