I graduated in June 2025 and joined a service based company as a fresher in July 2025. In December 2025 the company got acquired by one of the WITCH companies. Since then we have been working on the same projects which were given to us before the acquisition with no changes to the tech stack or project scope.
My current tech stack involves:
- KornShell scripting (95% of Work) many of the scripts are written in 2017 and some are also written in 2009.
- AutoSys job scheduling
- Oracle SQL Developer v17 and v420 (Just Queries)
- Minimal exposure to Hadoop
- Very minimal AWS Redshift exposure
I have been on this project for around 10 months now. The work has no actual development involved. My manager has confirmed there are no development projects available in his portfolio that match my skills. I am using client Citrix VDI which lags a lot and many of the people who are using it keeps on complaining it to the IT team.
I want to work in AI or backend roles which can provide me good exposure to modern technology.
My questions for the community:
- Is this tech stack completely useless for backend / ai roles?
- Should I wait for a better internal project or switch companies?
- For someone targeting modern SDE or Data Engineering roles — how much time should I give this situation before actively switching?
- I am more interested in using modern tech stack, If I stay for longer (2 + yrs ) will the tech stack affect me during job switch?
Any advice from people who've been in similar situations would be really helpful.
