Hey folks! I bought a used Audi A3 40 TFSI premium in December 2025. Here is my story.
My father has been using a 21 year old Mercedes Benz E200 kompressor (14 years with us) and I always loved that car as a kid. So in December I decided to get my own luxury used car and zeroed in on a beautiful Audi A3 40 TFSI, after seeing the car on cars24. I, however, talked to the owner directly for the purchase based on the details on cars24 and olx.
The car had done 1.4L kms and was registered in 2016. I was hesitant at first but looking at the sweet price tag of about 6L my wife and I decided to go for it. I stay in Hyderabad and so buying an Audi for such a low price was a no-brainer. The seller was a real gentleman and I drove the car for 2 hours across the city to a garage for inspection. It had some work that had to be done, but I purchased it on the same day.
I, then did a complete mechanical overhaul of the car with a contact from Mumbai ( my dad used to stay in Mumbai and used to get the car serviced from a value-for-money mechanic). We did the complete mechanical overhaul: Engine mounts, water pump, throttle body, timing chain, suspension, PMS, steering rack, brakepads, beltdrive, flywheel etc for close to 2.6L which took a month for the complete overhaul.
But once the car came back, there was an issue with the timing chain. The timing was slightly off which threatened to damage the entire engine. I took the car to German Motors in Hyderabad (great service as always) and to my dismay camshafts and the hydraulic lifters had to be replaced. Although German motors helped me to procure used parts, the bill was still 70k.
Since then there was another issue where due to improper fitting of the led headlights the radiator cracked and the coolant leaked causing the engine to overheat. I had to tow it to get that fixed again.
Apart from the hiccups (which in my view were either my own or mechanic's mistakes) the car has been flawless. The engine is butter smooth, the cabin is silent and the engine seems very powerful for the weight of the car (stock tuning and I don't want to change that). It is great on the highway in terms of staying planted and not feeling out of breath at high speeds while being comfortable too. I recently completed a relatively long trip to Chirala (600kms) in the car too. I've also made the car my primary office driver (30 kms of city traffic daily)
The car has now completed 5k kms in the last 5 months and my wife and I couldnt be happier with the purchase. It gets us attention. It gets us the driving experience that we love and all this at a pocket-friendly price. This is a luxury machine that we can call ours.
