Career change teaching to nursing

Hello,
Looking for advice from anyone local who may have changed careers to nursing. I was a teacher in the city for 10 years. Took 7 years of childcare leave. While I did that, I tutored privately and earned an advanced certification in literacy instruction. I have been applying for jobs - elementary teaching, substitute etc. no traction. I am getting discouraged and seriously considering now may be the time to just change careers. I think hiring committees may be more forgiving to those new to a career versus those who took time off to stay at home although I tried to use that time in a meaningful way. We simply could not afford childcare and had no family nearby. In terms of nursing, I’m starting from scratch. Would love advice for those who did it nearby at local schools. Thanks in advance.
