Where do locals eat in Rome? + First-time travel tips 🇮🇹

Hi everyone!

I’m planning my first trip to Rome and I’d love to get some advice from people who know the city well (or locals 👀).

  1. Where do locals actually eat in Rome?

I’m trying to avoid tourist traps and find authentic places—small trattorias, casual spots, bakeries, street food, anything really. Neighborhood recommendations are also very welcome!

  1. Any must-try foods?

I already know about carbonara, cacio e pepe, and amatriciana, but I’d love to hear what else I shouldn’t miss.

  1. Tips for a first-time visit to Rome:

- Things you wish you knew before going

- Common mistakes to avoid

- Best times to visit major attractions

- Transport tips (walk vs public transport?)

- Safety tips or scams to watch out for

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!
