hi! looking for some advice because i can’t find any online.
i am renting a room for student housing with other people in a house in kingston ontario with a 12 month lease. i signed the lease back in november but have yet to pay the last month’s rent as a security deposit. i was never hounded by my landlord or anyone to pay it by a certain day and just kinda forgot about it. fast forward to now - may 1st - the day that first month’s rent is due, i was wondering if there is a deadline or if there are any negative consequences for not paying that deposit on time.
don’t get me wrong i am happy to pay the security deposit and understand fully what that means for both parties, but the problem is that i am on vacation right now across the world and cannot send money through my bank as the verification requires use of my phone number (which i cannot access).
i have already asked one of my friends from home to send the first months rent ($900), but im wondering if i should see if someone else can pay the deposit if need be. but obviously i don’t want to ask such a big favour and i could send it myself personally when i come back (may 20th ish).
im asking this as well as my landlord is not answering me and there is only a few more hours of may 1st left and im freaking out!
