I’ve been watching MMA (mainly UFC and occasionally Rizin/LFA) weekly for a few years now. I’m 23, graduated last year and got a full time job, and am finally looking to get into training. I was hesitant for a while because I just sort’ve assumed I’d be starting too late by not doing it during school (I was playing football and basketball then), but now I’d like to start because I need a healthy hobby and MMA is my favorite sport to watch. Plus, a gym with great reviews is offering a signup deal and is only a 5 min drive away.
I guess I’m just wondering what would be helpful to know for someone like me. For example, I assume that I’ll need to avoid getting ahead of myself and skipping fundamentals because I’m so used to watching UFC fighters who have mastered advanced techniques. Is there anything you learned early or saw others like me learn that helped with starting out in a gym for the first time?
