Hello!

I have recently enrolled in Northwestern University, to which I am super stoked about!

However, I am worried about Northwestern's Mechanical Engineering. I am not the most advanced, though I will try hard and work. I just wanted to know your guys' opinion on this major at Northwestern.

How hard is it for people who have not done any crazy projects related to Mechanical Engineering but have a love for the major?

Thank you!

Hello!

I recently enrolled at Northwestern University and couldn't be more excited. That said, I have some concerns and would love some advice.

I've been accepted into both the Bienen School of Music (Cello) and the McCormick School of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering), and I'll also be participating in Army ROTC to help cover tuition costs. The Bienen Cello program is highly competitive and demanding, so I know it will require serious dedication.

On the engineering side, while I've had some exposure to the subject in high school, I feel like I'd essentially be starting from scratch at the university level, though it's something I genuinely enjoy and want to pursue.

My concern is whether it's realistic to balance all three commitments: maintaining strong grades in a rigorous engineering program, meeting the demands of a competitive conservatory cello program, and waking up at 5 am every morning for ROTC physical training at Loyola University.

Is it feasible to begin engineering at a foundational level while managing these other obligations? And more broadly, should I consider scaling back one of these commitments to set myself up for success?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
