Dual citizenship
I was born in Turkey in 1988 and adopted from a Turkish orphanage. I was brought to the United States in 1990 and have lived here ever since as an American citizen. I recently reunited with biological family members and have all of my original adoption paperwork, registry records, and documents showing my biological parents and siblings.
I was recently told that because I was born in Turkey, I may be eligible to apply for a Turkish ID and potentially regain or obtain Turkish citizenship. I was also told my children may qualify for citizenship through me.
My question is:
If I apply for Turkish citizenship, would I have to give up my American citizenship, or does Turkey allow dual citizenship with the United States?
Also, has anyone here gone through this process as an adoptee born in Turkey? Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.
